If you're planning a cosy night in this Valentine's Day (or, just any day), then chances are, you've considered giving your underwear drawer a much-needed update. But wearing your new lingerie and fighting the urge not to dive straight under the covers is an exercise in self-assurance as much as it is sourcing the right smalls, so who better to turn to for body confidence tips than a woman who makes a living out of parading around in next to nothing? Adriana Lima is Victoria's Secret's longest serving Angel - ergo, something of an expert on the subject - so we asked her to share her tips for finding the perfect lingerie and, most importantly, feeling confident in it. Prepare to enjoy Valentine's Day to the full. (With the lights on.)
First and foremost to find the perfect underwear, you have to find the right size for you, so I suggest you come to one of the Victoria’s Secret stores and get measured. That’s my number one suggestion, it’s key to finding the right bra – simply wearing the right size!
It’s important to pick a style that fits and flatters you. I change my mind all the time, but my favourite at the moment is the Dream Angel demi bra – it’s romantic with the lace, and the demi cut is a little lower cut, so you can wear it under any neckine, like a V neck and you can’t see it, plus it’s really comfortable. Also it’s very light and has memory foam, so it adjusts to your body shape – all important things to consider!
I would always suggest trying different shapes, styles and prints – there’s so much to choose from, whether you want something completely basic, or sporty, or something more sexy, or something more covered. So if you find a bra you like then try having it with the full cup and then the demi cup for variation of coverage. Try lots on, why not?!
It’s important to feel confident and it’s so simple but if you wear the right size bra then you’re going to feel good because it fits well. What makes me feel confident is a little extra cleavage, so I always like to wear a push up bra.
Fragrance helps me to feel sexy. For the evening I would chose something provocative, something glamorous. Or during the day I would chose something lighter, more floral. Confidence is about senses – smell, touch - how you feel and what you wear underneath your clothes is just as important.
Other things to boost your confidence – try to move around, do exercise, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. Run, do jump rope, a few squats, anything. Just find something that makes you feel good. If that doesn’t involve working out then it might be something simple like doing your nails, applying the right lipstick, your favourite fragrance, and of course wearing the perfect lingerie, anything that makes you feel sexy. I’d suggest trying a combination of all of those things, but really it’s whatever works for you. |
